YOULead Institute

A Trusted curriculum for honing leadership qualities

Facilitated by the premier leadership and service-learning ambassador program at Florida Atlantic University students, YOULead Institute is designed to recognize exemplary student leaders. These elite students are given the opportunity for personal leadership development as well as facilitating leadership development for students at FAU and around Florida. Knowing that leadership is not positional, Elite Owls instead focus on leadership as a relationship and encourage others to do the same.

The program aim is to build a strong leadership foundation while creating possibilities for student leaders to engage others in making an everlasting mark on the community and student body; in and out of the classroom.

ROOTED IN EVIDENCE

For over 30 years, Student Leadership Challenge authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner have continuously gathered and analyzed data from the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) and Student Leadership Practices Inventory (Student LPI) survey questionnaires for ongoing study and to make refinements to the instrument. The database of responses is used to produce the normative information contained in the LPI and Student LPI feedback reports.

YouLEAD is a Student Leadership Challenge experience that takes the wisdom of The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® and nuclear-infuses it with the high-energy, engaging, and relevant teaching style of Student Empowerment. The Student Leadership Challenge Experience is not a “one and done” leadership development seminar. Instead, it’s a leadership experience that’s actually fun, entertaining, and full of information with lasting effects for you as a student leader. YouLEAD creates a shared leadership language, through The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, so you can talk about leadership issues and run your organizations, teams and clubs in a way that fosters collaboration and sustainability throughout the school year and for years to come!

The concepts are complex and challenging enough to change the way you think about leadership, while being easy enough to break down in a way that is engaging for both brand new leaders and seasoned veterans alike.
